About Kilimanjaro National Park

Kilimanjaro National Park was established as a game reserve in 1910, a forest reserve in 1921, and a national park in 1973. Kilimanjaro National Park was not accessible to the public until 1977. The park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 and was named one of Africa’s 7 Natural Wonders in 2013. Kilimanjaro is located in Northern Tanzania, 48 kilometers from Moshi, and has an area of 1,668 square kilometers.

Mt. Kilimanjaro rises over the softly sloping hills and plateau of northern Tanzania, its slopes and glaciers gleaming above the gathering clouds. The ecosystems of the mountain are as startlingly beautiful as they are varied and diverse. Once within Kilimanjaro National Park, heavy lowland forest covers the lower elevations and transitions to alpine meadows as the air thins. The scenery at the top is harsh and bleak, with rocks and ice dominating over a stunning African perspective.

Simply wonderful from the moment we arrived in Tanzania. Never been to Africa before and tents are not our usual accommodation - but this was an exceptional environment and we felt privileged to be so close to the animals we came to see 24/7

We had high hopes/expectations for our trip, and they were thoroughly exceeded! We loved every minute of it, and both camps, although different, were spectacular in their own ways. We hope this is not our last trip to Africa
